By admin | October 9, 2008

The UK digital download market became a little more congested as EMI and Play.com touted their brand new services for online music lovers.

EMI confirmed that its brand new music service would become available via its current website and is expected to incorporate social media features. However, it is not known whether the new service will allow the sale of products from other music labels.

Online music retailer Play.com also announced that its PlayDigital facility has forged partnerships with the four major music labels and will offer its music products in DRM free MP3 format. The firm also revealed that it will sell its music products at a cheaper rate than Apple inc.’s iTunes service.

The launch of these new music based services are designed to take the battle for internet customers to the iTunes service, which has dominated the market for some time. Other ,soon to be launched, digital music services will be on offer from Amazon, Sky and HMV.
