Insurers warn against Facebook and MySpace parties
By admin | September 4, 2008
Anyone who is starting to plan a teenage Facebook ,Bebo,Hi5 or MySpace party may need to think again. Insurance companies are warning that, although they are used to claims involving teenage hi-jinks, they are not so happy about having to pay out for the damage that notorious social networking parties can cause.
As far as insurers are concerned it’s bad enough that dozens of invited internet party people may cause some damage to the hosts property but online publicity means that there is the potential for an unknown quantity of gatecrashers to descend upon the appointed venue.
Basically, if hundreds of youngsters turn up to a property intent on causing havoc because the owner or the owner’s offspring have sent out a general invite, the insurers may say that the home owner failed in their duty to protect their property and refuse to pay up.
It has been estimated that UK teen parties have cost insurance companies nearly £17 million.
