MySpace promotes child safety initiative
By admin | September 25, 2008
Giant social networking website MySpace is utilising technology that is able to carry out in-depth analysis of whether potential site registrants may already be registered as sex offenders. The website adopted the technology in order to cement its commitment to protecting children who use the internet.
The site has shown itself to be proactive in this area and ,in 2007, had already identified around 29,000 sex offenders from its registered user base. The new technology which is called Sentinel collates information such as images and the names of sex offenders and operates 24 hours per day.
A spokespeson for the site said that online child safety is of the utmost importance and MySpace will take all necessary steps to sift out potential predators before they attempt to make any contact with other users.
MySpace also points out that it reviews image and video content that might be deemed to be violent or pornographic. Users who choose to upload material that is illegal or offensive may find themselves subject to an investigation by the relevant authorities.
